Last year, my Mom turned 50, and I threw her a blowout bash for her birthday milestone. While I knew I wanted to throw her a party, I didn't know exactly what to do to make it so special. Below I've listed 5 tips that helped me as I planned her bash!
1. Set the tone: Remember that the party is about the guest of honor. If you're planning on a theme party, ensure that the guest of honor is comfortable with it. For instance, in lieu of a theme, we simply chose a color scheme and our invitation was simple with a champagne glass letting our guests know it would be a celebratory event.
2. Be courteous about the guest's age: While some people dread the day they turn a certain age, if you're throwing a party they probably don't mind! A little teasing about their age can be fun - -n fact some people expect it. Here are a few examples of comical sayings that you could include on the invitations:
- Lordy Lordy XYZ is Turning 40!
- You’re not fifty - you’re five perfect 10s!
- 50 - when the candles cost more than the cake!
3. Include all the event details: Keep the 50th birthday invitation wording concise, not too wordy. Make sure you include important details such as: name of the birthday boy or girl, date/time/location of the event, if the party is a surprise, if you would like guests to RSVP, and if they should bring gifts for the guest of honor.
4. Be clear about who's on the guest-list: If you're hosting the party in your home, decide on who you're inviting and how many. This will ensure you invite everyone you truly want to be there and you can make sure the party isn't too crowded. Decide in advance if you want children to attend the party or not. If you want an adult only party, make sure you say one the invitation “Please no children” or “Adults only.”
5. Attire: Especially important if you're throwing a theme party, people like to be told what to wear, so be specific.
These were things I found incredibly helpful in throwing my Mom's 50th birthday party. Planning a someone's blowout bash for birthday milestones?
